Veterans’ gravestones and memorial vandalized in Massachusetts

The vandalized graves of approximately 45 veterans, and a monument to veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam were discovered on the morning of Veterans Day. The Evergreen Cemetery in Kingston, Massachusetts, was the scene of the crime.

At 7:30 a.m. police received a call that a VFW memorial had been overturned. After responding to the area, police noticed that headstones had also been toppled. Ninety-one graves were disturbed, and nearly half of them were marked veterans graves.

Police spent much of Thursday lifting fingerprints off of the granite headstones and families visited the cemetery to check on their loved one’s final resting place.

It is expected to cost thousands of dollars to repair the damage, however many offers of assistance have been received by the cemetery.
