VA Conducting Series of Events Promoting Stories of Female Veterans

In an effort to promote its Women Veterans: Celebrating Our Stores of Service campaign, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will launch five day-long events to benefit women veterans. The events will take place at five locations across the nation and bring out VA representatives to inform female veterans of the services and support available to them through their local VA facilities.

Women who attend these events can get face time with VA staff, local community supporters, and agencies that provide women-specific services for veterans. The VA is looking to these events to better connect with the female veteran population and get a firsthand perspective on what they need from their local VA facilities.

The five events will take place at the following dates and locations.

  • St. Petersburg, Florida – June 12, 2015
  • San Diego (Oceanside), California – July 10, 2015
  • Houston, Texas – August 7, 2015
  • Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota – September 14, 2015
  • Washington D.C. – September 22, 2015

The female veteran population is growing steadily, creating new challenges and needs in the VA community. Approximately 9.2 percent of the total veteran population is female, equaling about two million female veterans. Because the VA historically dealt with mainly male patients, development and implementation of more female and family-focused services is underway to ensure adequate care for all veterans and military families.

The VA has many programs dedicated to providing and improving services to our veterans. If you are a disabled veteran who suffered injury or illness due to your active service, you may be eligible for veterans’ disability benefits.
