Taylor, Texas residents protest PTSD center for veterans

According to the Houston Chronicle, some residents of Taylor, Texas (a town located 40 miles northeast of Austin) are objecting to the renovation of a nursing home. Texas Center Point Inc., a California-owned company, hopes to convert the home into an 88-bed trauma assistance center for female veterans.

Apparently, residents in the town are fearful that veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) could act out aggressively towards neighbors in the area. The director of Veterans for Common Sense told reporters that “veterans are the kind of neighbors we want, and it’s safe to be around them.”

Reader comments on the paper’s website regarding the story captured the outrage many people feel about the lack of patriotism displayed by such anti-veteran sentiments.
