Survivors of veterans have new advocate at the VA

The Secretary of the VA announced last week that a new program called, Voice of Survivors, will serve to coordinate benefits for survivors of veterans and advocate on their behalf.

A part of the program, which was authorized by the Veterans Benefits Improvement Act of 2008, an office has been set up at the VA which will also be empowered to create and modify programs for veterans’ survivors.

Benefits available to veterans’ dependents include:

  • Educational assistance
  • Home loan guaranties
  • Health care insurance
  • Dependency and Indemnity Compensation

According to the VA, more than 554,000 veterans survivors benefit from VA programs. For more information on programs for veterans survivors, contact the VA and ask them about their new veterans survivors office.
