The Senate is scheduled to vote on an amendment to a veterans benefits bill that’s been on hold due to Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn. The Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act (S.B. 1693) is pending a vote in the Senate, but Coburn blocked the bill because he said it wasn’t comprehensive enough.
According to one report, Coburn cited his opposition to the bill and said the bill is mainly for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and is not funded. In an attempt to remedy these issues, Coburn drafted an amendment that expanded benefits to more veterans and by eliminating funding for certain Defense projects and contributions to the United Nations.
