The VA Salt Lake City Health Care system conducted a 12-hour telethon-like event on Veterans Day. VA employees, senators, congressmen and veterans answered phones while a local CBS affiliate aired the event.
The event was organized in an effort to reach out to veterans and according to the VA, get “difficult conversations started. The volunteers answered questions from callers on topics such as:
- Medical care
- Disability claims
- GI Bill
- Job training
Nearly 400 calls were answered during the “Salute to Veterans” telethon event.
