Proposed Act Will Simplify Registering for Veterans’ Disability Benefits

The newly proposed Benefit Rating Acceleration for Veteran Entitlements (BRAVE) Act seeks to simplify the disability benefits claims process for disabled veterans. In order to currently get full disability benefits from both the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) and the Social Security Administration (SSA), disabled veterans must apply to both agencies separately; a time consuming and repetitive process, despite both agencies using similar definitions to determine disability.

The BRAVE Act seeks to force Social Security to automatically accept and grant benefits to any veteran for benefits already receiving benefits from the VA. This will eliminate the lengthy wait time veterans have to endure waiting for SSA approval.
