President Obama to sign Executive Order for veterans

President Obama is scheduled to sign an executive order today that will directly benefit veterans who are seeking employment with the federal government.

According to a report by ABC, the order will establish a “Council on Veterans Employment” that will be chaired by the Secretaries of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Labor. The order will establish a “Veterans Employment Program Office” within most Federal agencies. The offices will offer the following services to veterans:

  • Assistance identifying jobs at federal agencies
  • Feedback to veterans regarding their employment status
  • Aid to newly hired veterans in adjusting to civilian employment

The order will also require the Office of Personnel Management to issue a government wide strategic plan to promote the “vision of the Executive Order.”

This is exciting news for many veterans who are eager to use their military time towards federal civilian retirement programs.
