Medal of Honor recipient told to take down his flagpole

Colonel Van Barfoot, a veteran of WWII, Korea AND Vietnam Wars, has been directed by his homeowner’s association to remove a flagpole in his yard. The Sussex Square Homeowner’s Association says that the 21-foot flagpole is not “aesthetically appropriate.”

The 90 year-old veteran is fighting the association and has hired legal representation. The American Legion has also come to Barfoot’s aid and has offered to help with expenses related to his case. The veterans group is regarded as the nation’s leading authority on flag etiquette.

Colonel Barfoot stopped 3 German tanks during WWII with a bazooka. He likely won’t be giving up this fight that easily.
