Disabled veterans may benefit from new legislation in Massachusetts

If approved by the state Senate, Massachusetts veterans will benefit from a new bill that provides additional resources for them. The state already has a “Welcome Home program” that gives bonuses to soldiers returning from military service. New legislation adds to the program and provides additional state benefits for all veterans.

Included in the bill which was recently approved by the Massachusetts House of Representatives, are provisions for the following:

  • Additional bonus money for subsequent deployments
  • A private, nonprofit corporation that would construct and operate state veterans homes
  • Exemption for veterans from permits and licenses needed for certain jobs in consideration of military experience and education
  • Mandatory state contract awards to disabled veterans
